24 September........Final documentational works on the site

Sunday afternoon on the downtown of Somma Vesuviana

Excavation on the ground just before the eruption of Mt. Vesuvio in 472 AD

We remove the soil carefully to identify the ground surface of those days.

Because of the last night rain.......

The ground is so muddy today, and the field works is discontinued.

Today's site

Repair of the crane was completed at last after one week of failure.

New transmitter and receiver arrived!

The crane is out of order also today...

We've been waiting for a mechanic to repair it for some days.
And this morning we had a storm for a while on the site.

Volcanic sand and ash were washed out, and scattered fragments of building components on the ancient ground were revealed.

We started the excavation in 2014

      We continue the excavation in the same location　from last year.

May be, it was plowed up, and then the surface was covered with the volcanic materials of that eruption.
